Film Screening & Debate on Modern Slavery

26-11-2018

To mark the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN City and UNDP in collaboration with The WHY Foundation set focus on modern slavery – one of today’s gravest violation of human rights. It is estimated that over 40 million people are enslaved in one form or another, and the vast majority are women.

UN City, UNDP and the WHY Foundation invite you to a special screening of the critically acclaimed and thought-provoking film Maid in Hell. A documentary that uncovers the hidden lives of domestic servants trapped in the sponsorship system referred to as Kafala, in the Middle East.

Maid in Hell is one of six documentaries in a series on modern slavery called WHY SLAVERY?, produced by The WHY Foundation and Plus Pictures. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Søren Klovborg, UNDP Nordic representative Camilla Brückner, lawyer and former French Ambassador for Human Rights François Zimeray and Mette Hoffmann Meyer from The WHY.

The event takes place on Monday 10 December from 16.00-18.30 in UN City.
